The masquerade turned the court into a garden of predators. Behind mirrored visors the party unspooled a plot to unmake a rival lord — baited with forged letters and bound by a chain hidden in a corset’s seam.
A knife kissed the Queen’s shadow, not her skin. The would-be assassin’s mouth was sewn with fine amber thread; when cut, it sang.
