Experience and Advancement
Characters in Symbaroum advance through experience gained from adventures and challenges.
Gaining Experience:
- Completing adventures: 5-20 XP depending on difficulty
- Overcoming challenges: 1-5 XP for individual challenges
- Achieving goals: 3-10 XP for personal objectives
- Good roleplaying: 1-3 XP for excellent character portrayal
- Creative solutions: 1-3 XP for innovative problem-solving
Using Experience:
- Improve Abilities: 5 XP per level (Novice to Adept, Adept to Master, Master to Grand Master)
- Learn New Abilities: 10 XP
- Increase Attributes: 20 XP per point
- Acquire Boons: 5 XP each
- Remove Burdens: 10 XP each
Ability Levels:
- Novice: Basic understanding and capability
- Adept: Skilled and experienced
- Master: Exceptional mastery and power
- Grand Master: Legendary skill and knowledge
Character Development Guidelines:
- Allow characters to change based on experiences
- Use XP to reflect character growth and learning
- Develop abilities that match the character's journey
- Consider how events have changed beliefs and goals
- Encourage organic development based on story events
Advancement Restrictions:
- Cannot increase attributes beyond 5
- Some abilities require prerequisites
- GM may limit certain advancements for story reasons
- Characters should develop in ways that make sense for their experiences
