The Undead Awakening

The appearance of conscious, intelligent undead is a relatively recent phenomenon in the world of Symbaroum. Previously, all undead were mindless, corrupted creatures driven by hunger and hatred.

The Awakening:
- Began about a decade ago
- Some undead regained consciousness and free will
- They retain memories of their former lives
- Are not necessarily evil or corrupted

Characteristics:
- Possess the memories and personality of their former selves
- Are not driven by hunger or hatred
- May be more or less than human
- Are often hunted and feared by the living

The conscious undead face many challenges. They are hunted by the Church of Prios, feared by most living people, and often struggle with their new nature. Some seek to understand what happened to them, while others try to find a place in the world.

They are often drawn to Davokar, where the boundaries between life and death are thin. Some believe that the corruption spreading from the forest is connected to their awakening.

The conscious undead are a diverse group, with different motivations and goals. Some seek revenge, others redemption, and still others simply want to understand their new existence.
